Yeap, wearing no armor and getting full protection is not what I meant at all when I protested only real armor, especially plate being accepted as real armor. I thought you could only jump 1 category anyway. I think this would be the final change to bring armor in to line, I never imagined that a ru...

I think most people will interpret "knee to shoulder" as the bottom of the knee, which is where your shins begin to top of your shoulders, which is where your neck begins. Basically I was asking of you're on the ground, have a shield, and pull your legs under it is that cheesy. I would say...

Shield size is coming up again as it has a few times. The first time around I had the same concerns and have always thought that the legal shield size is a little too big at FH. I think you're going to have the I hit your back arguments no matter what. If you base it on where the person is attacking...

If the shield is as wide as the shoulders, then the sword arm is not vulnerable when the player is not attacking, and the shins require a unsafe lunging attack to hit if the attacker is using a weapon shorter than a pike or pole arm. So I'd consider a shield that leaves only the sword arm and shins...

Since this is a shield and turtling thread, what if someone is using a shield that goes from neck to knees (the legal shield size) while on their back and they pull their legs up under the shield? Cheese or not?

How do you get 25% uncovered area? The way the rules work right now the only thing that will be open is the shins, as the shield moves farther away from the body even that is cut down.

That spell doesn't, and nothing else in the game for that matter say you can't attack from the ground.

Brian my only point on the universal max size thing was that no one would ever need to check a shields size before they used the phys rep. I've picked up shield phys reps and used them before and I've never knelt down and checked the sizing because that never comes to mind when you are in a battle. ...

I definitely agree that unskilled wrapping is dangerous, but to me no more so than unskilled shield use. And shields because of their much higher mass can carry much larger force behind it even at a much lower acceleration. To me shields are the most dangerous things on the field, I can baseball swi...

You have to base it on something, levels or spent build pts seems the easiest, you don't have another skill to keep track of and you do I think it could work, but like all these hypothecticals you can't take any issue in a vacuum. Are there resists and immunities in the game already? How prevalent a...

I really don't like that proposal, so rarely are people standing still looking straight forward and it creates a loophole for cheese weasels. I ca swivel my hips enough without moving my feet that the "back" portion of a 360 would essentially be cut down to about 90. Not to mention that wa...

If things change and a shield isn't legal anymore then it isn't. If they outlaw certain types of weapons and you have one no one is going to replace them for you, why would anyone have to do that for shields. Uhm, if you are hit in the back then you are hit in the back. If someone is on your side an...

LARP rules change, it's the nature of the beast. Even a guy that claimed that he had created "the perfect, unbreakable" system had to change a bunch of stuff a couple years after that. I'd have no problem with level being a threshold for absolute effects. I don't even have a problem with d...

My problem with the 2 foot rule was that if 2 people with shields were fighting they'd never be able to legally hit each other if they are using their shields normally and short sword sized weapons. My problem with the shield size has always been that it leads to people ankle biting and leading with...

Holy Cow! I've been suggesting safe fighting demo's for awhile now and I finally got a yes from Chris this weekend so expect that to be in place next year. Reading Aaron's post on fighting expectations I disagree with one thing and that's wrapping, shields are so big in FH that you can't remove wrap...
