pork-starter 2014
I am loosely considering doing a a pig roast toward the end of the year.
I will need to secure permission from the camp plus the GMs.
Renting Buying a roaster is allot and the pigs are around 250 dollars for a 100 lbs one.
If anyone can get those cheaper, let me know.
This is a high expense, so if I actually do it, i will be taking donations in person or electronically on paypal.

That's kind of ironic. You and I were just chatting about Brian and I could have sworn you mumbled "That pig" under you breath...er...never mind...I know nothing...

We all know if Travis was talking about ME...he would be saying nothing as polite as "that pig"....

Re: pork-starter 2014
for those of you who care Thi is still on.
The camp might have a roaster. will need mike to check on it.
otherwise I can get a Chinese box roaster for 300 bucks. I am going to try to get an Amish pig if that falls though Brian knows a guy who can get us high quality pork from a processor.
Those who donate will get first dibs on the good parts like the eyes and head.
donations. Paypal, google wallet, cash, credit card, check, FH gold, will all be accepted.

Re: pork-starter 2014
I think what would help people decide is to know what the total cost will be. That will give us an idea on what each person interested shold roughly chip in.
Tell me how big a pig you need (id guess they are rated in pounds) and I will look into getting a pig price.

Re: pork-starter 2014
silly Brian. It's on the first post of this thread.
The sign at the kitchen window that read, "still accepting donations for harvest roast" during the event was in reference to this. That might not of been clear.
Actually, if a GM knows the number, can we get a head count of both PC's and NPC/GMs at the event. Combined, it seemed like a good size group. So if we figure out how many pounds will feed that many people we can go from there.
I just looked (because I'm not sure about transporting a pig) and I found a butcher shop in Mason that does whole pig roasts and has a connection to roasters as well. Not sure how the prices compare, but here's the website. http://www.merindorfmeats.com/custom_processing.html

so 350 for the roaster (unless the camp has one.)
http://www.lacajachina.com/Pig-Roast-p/lcc-g101.htm
and about 200 for the pork. that's 550. (this time.)

Re: pork-starter 2014
just checked, the place that Menendorf meats recommends for renting roasters charges $60 for the weekend + a $60 refundable deposit. Pick up Friday and drop off Monday. You supply the charcoal. Downside is they aren't open on Sunday and could arrange for a pick up and said they'd charge $80/hour. They are about 45 minutes north of the camp. Not sure if anyone lives close enough to Lansing to keep it overnight Sunday and deliver it back on Monday.
Re: pork-starter 2014
we could maybe get my MIL to drop it off.
if we assume that it's around 320 rather than 550
unless the camp has one.

Re: pork-starter 2014
Even 150 lbs of meat is going to be probably 4-5x too much. Maybe half a hog would be better? (Going off what I see on the site Angie linked)
You are what you dare.
