Armor making questions

Post by Donmayo »

So I have been working on a design for my armor for a while and keep running into a couple problems,

First, what do you use for a Frame, I really do not like the whole football pads, or hocky, with metal simply clipped over it. Looks ehh... not the best.

Reid, made some but I never saw what he used for a frame.

Second, the shoulders. I simply cannot get this to work for me, any suggestions?

BTW I am making it out of metal not leather, if that changes anything.

Take a look at www.armourarchive.org . There are a lot of patterns there. I guess I dont understand what you mean by a "frame".

I think what he means is something to attach the armor to, to help hold it together and/or help give it shape.

You could just use rivets and leather straps to hold it all together. Could attach carpet padding to the inside of the armor for comfort.

On my old metal armor I went to JoAnn's and bought a few feet of 2" nylon strapping (the kind on bookbags). Then I made a harness out of it with carpet thread and then riveted the armor to that. You could just go with ure leather for the harness, but it gets more expensive that way. Since you are using leather it molds easier than metal so strapping should work fine as you can cover it entirely.

Funny I was thinking about using an old back pack, do you think that would work?
