benefits to wearing "real" armor
What qualifies as real? Like mines only around 25 lbs and is aluminum not steel. Does that count?
-Eli (Full Elvish: Elaith Vonaduran Craulnober)
There once was a man named Eli,
A man who claimed he could not die.
But one thing makes him wail:
That's when there is no ALE!
Thus his tale: with no beer, he will cry.
(The dark haired, green eyed mage child has faded into the past leaving behind one not quite an adult, but clearly no longer a child. The warrior-mage mixture that he has become can only be described as a survivor. )

Re: benefits to wearing "real" armor
I think, as long as it's made of the actual material it is in game (metal, leather, cloth, etc) it counts as real armor
No, I am not an Emo-Elf despite what some people may say *glares at Eli*

Chain made of metal instead of the shirts with chain mail patters, plate made of metal instead of foam, leather made of leather instead of vinyl.

instead of being "broken"/destroyed/shattered by a Shatter effect...the armor is only reduced to zero armor points....can be repaired by craftsman as if the armor had just been dropped to zero a point at a time by a weapon.

Re: benefits to wearing "real" armor
::nods:: That's not half bad.
I would say that it's the materials and look that matter. I know that it was the creators (Chris') vision it was more about the weight and bulk of real armor. So aluminum chain would be medium in that vein. But, I've never cared about that, and felt that if someone wants to shell out for titanium mail... more power to ya.

I think it being reduced to 0 is epic. It doesn't need to be better than that. I do think the GMs should determine if something is real vs fake and let people know case by case, but the examples you listed above I agree with. Also, there's no way I'll able at my age to wear 60 lbs of chain for an entire weekend

Re: benefits to wearing "real" armor
That is pretty much how it works, WHEN the staff is able to inspect the phys reps.
1)I think there needs to be a certification tag of some sort, and the phys rep evaluated every year (maybe). No need to bog down logistics every event. (this also leads into the chapters having trained weapon marshals to inspect phys reps for safety. They would also do shield sizing numbers for players and phys reps, and eval armor phys reps as real armor or not and what areas it covers.)

Re: benefits to wearing "real" armor
I do not support tags attached to items.
This is a matter of players needing to know what their stuff is and if they want to reap the benefit they need to ask a GM. Once they know if it's 'real' or not then they don't need a tag.

Good thing that was never suggested then...I do not support tags attached to items.
which will never happen so....tags.This is a matter of players needing to know what their stuff is and if they want to reap the benefit they need to ask a GM. Once they know if it's 'real' or not then they don't need a tag.

Re: benefits to wearing "real" armor
Im surprised that, since you were part of running a chapter, you do not realize how incorrect you are. Maybe its due to the current player base, compared to the one you had. You are simply wrong on this.

No, players have always been a pain in the ass. I just approach the problem differently.

Re: benefits to wearing "real" armor
Its a good thing its been shown that when special powers or items, have a tag explaining EXACTLY what it does, issues related to mis use of that power/item nearly or totally vanish. Means I am not. And, I think you are simply wrong on this.
Obviously within your rights when you were staff, this is just an effort to have it stick, eliminate the he said she said after staffing changes, and the details to remain the same year to year and GM to GM. Tags is the way to get that done. No, players have always been a pain in the ass. I just approach the problem differently.

Re: benefits to wearing "real" armor
Not necessarily.
Tags get lost. Tags have to be managed. Tags are an unneeded expense on the game. At the end of the day, you are just trading one headache for another(s), and it's no more efficient than just policing and communicating as it already is.
I'm not telling the current staff how they want to handle their business, but I would not recommend this one.
