From out of the night...

A cold bed and a warm ale. Blood stains the walls, but it looks like the Bar Keep is standing...for once.

From out of the night...

Post by Robin »

...a slight figure enters the inn. Clad in black with a green Captain's coat, a woman takes a seat by the harth, the chill of evening having brought a blush of pink to her cheeks.

"If you will, good sir, an ale to warm a weary traveler." She smiled very softly, and kept her eyes to herself.
"Is misery made beautiful, right before our eyes?
Will mercy be revealed, or blind us where we stand?"

*Atrum goes behind the bar and pours a mug of ale*

Here you are, a mug of my best, what brings you to these parts if I may ask?

*Walks out of the back room after finsihing his conversation with Atrum. Sits a comfortable distance away from the newcomer and drains his tankard.*

"I'm not sure if it was your best, Atrum, but I'll take another of whatever we were drinking."

*Smiles at the traveler and gives her a nod of recognition. On hearing Atrum's question, wait to see if Robin answers.*

*Drains his own mug, refills both and hands Donvan his*

Aah tis indeed.

*Takes a swig off of his mug*

I do so enjoy a good ale, almost as much as a good story.

*Turns his attention back to the newcomer*

*she nods in thanks to the kindness of Atrum and takes a deep draft of the ale.*

Mmmmm... s' been a while since I've had a fine brew. If this isn't your best, then it's better than I've had of late.

*she awarded him with a soft smile, brushing a lock of her pale blonde hair out of her face, most of which was hidden behind her elaborate green hat. When Donovan entered the room she watched him carefully, but nodded to him as well, grinning at his jibe at his seeming friend.*

What brings me here, you ask. Why my feet, of course.

*she laughed, a wry little grin pulling at her lips.*

In sooth, I come because I have traveled a long way looking for something lost, and perhaps here shall find that which I seek. Besides, this is as good a place as any to be of service, for word of the need of the people here has reached my ears.

*she frowned a bit, taking another long draft of the ale*

I have heard that the plight of the common laborer is not good, and this concerns me. I come to aid those who might need it, and learn what knowledge there is to be had.

*She fell silent then, waiting to see what kind of responce her words might elect from the two men*

*Atrum lets out a laugh*

Touche

*Listens to the rest of her story*

Yes unfortunately the people of the village have faced many things in the past year and a half. We have done what we can to protect and help them. Our struggle is indeed hard but worth the effort in my humble opinion.

*Nods approvingly as Robin speaks of service, and again when she mentions the plight of the common laborer*

"Indeed, the people of this land have seen kinder days. You find our little community in a troubled time, but there are those of us..."

*gestures at Atrum*

"...who seek to carve a place of peace out of the violence and terror that beset our world. If you are of a like mind, then know you are welcome here for as long as you wish to remain."

*Turns his head toward Atrum, smiling slightly*

"I suppose it's time to get the formalities out of the way, isn't it?"

*Stands, takes a step back, and bows to Robin with a flourish. As he speaks, his voice takes on the tone of address.*

"Well met, good traveler. I am Donovan Thynedar, servant of the Light, Knight of the Azure Cross, Commander of the Phoenix Guard, and Constable of Final Haven..."

*Steps to the side, and extends a hand toward Atrum*

"...and this is Atrum Draconus, whose titles are unknown to me, but whose character has proven him to be among the elite of the citizens of his realm."

*The formality slips out of his voice, and a grin breaks across his face.*

"Of course, I'd be likely to say that of any man filling my tankard, but Atrum really has earned it."

*Atrum cracks a smile*
I hold no titles here, only my name.

*Raises his glass and in a loud voice*

*she smiled softly and drained the last of her ale, and then stood. She took off her hat with a sweeping bow and addressed them with formality.*

I am Robin, Captain Steel, formerly of the Talon. It is my pleasure to make the aquantiance of you both.

*She took Atrum's hand firmly, shaking it, and then closed the distance to Donovan and did the same, shaking his hand. She met his eyes framkly, honesty in their jade depths.*

I do care a great deal for the plight of those tied to the land, for it is by their hand that the rest of the land is made healthy. They bring life and order from out of the chaos of these times, and I hold that in the highest of regard. I had heard that this town was in need of those to help, those who would pledge to protect the innocen and hold honor as Law.

*She was quiet for a moment, but then continued.*

Your name is not unknown to me, Constable. Perhaps I could prevale upon your grace to show me about this new town?

*As Atrum makes salute, Donovan also raises his glass - later draining it when Atrum drains his.*

"Gloria victis, sursum corda et nunc est bibendum"

*Seemingly a conditioned response, Donovan tenses slightly when Robin takes his hand. He meets Robin's eyes, locking his steely blue gaze onto her pools of jade, plumbing their depths. Seeing the honestly there, his tension vanishes.*

"Honor to serve, my lady. I'm afraid there's not much to see as yet, but I'd be happy to escort you around what we've managed to accomplish thus far. We can start our tour at your leisure, but I'd be interested in knowing how you came across my name."

*If Robin seems ready to leave, Donovan offers her an arm.*

*Robin gave the Lord of the Phoenix a soft smile, a shy one really. For a moment she simply gazed into his clear blue eyes and said nothing, trying to get the measure of him within them. She saw honor there, and a good man. She held out her arm for him to take.*

"Shall we walk, my Lord? The night is crisp and lovely, and some things need to be spoken under a star lit sky.

*she turned to Atris with a warm smile, bowing her thanks.*

I owe you a drink, good sir, a debt I fully intend to pay. We shall talk more, for you seem a fine fellow to know.

*with that she turned back to Donovan, and once he took her arm let him lead her out into the beauty of the chill evening.*

OOC: *soft smile* We shall continue this on the morrow, good sir, for I shall be at Brighton rec very early. ^_^

*OOC - I, sadly, will be there rather late. (Pesky commencement ceremonies, anyway) But be there I shall. Till then, my lady.*
