SNOW!

Townsmen with the shakes huddle around the glowing embers of what may have been a roaring fire. Speak quick, lest thee be to long in the open!

SNOW!

Post by GM-Amanda »

The day dawned cold and clear, just hours after a snowfall on par with storms seen by the eldest of the Sil'vandar. The sticklike visages of the trees were one of the few witnesses to an Av'yana perched on the rooftop of the Tipsy Traveler, feathers quivering in the still air, the black outline stark against the clear blue sky. At a signal known only to her, Cirrus flung herself from the rooftop with a joyful shriek that shot through the morning sky like a thunderclap. She landed spread-eagle in a mound of softly lofted snow she had piled specifically for that purpose, but it took a second before her plumage poked up above the crater she had created in the otherwise featureless field. Her grin was maniac as she rolled away from the snow'Vyana, careful not to disturb the faint outlines of her feathers before heading towards a tall maple near the edge of the clearing.

cirrus rolled around making her snow'vyana, but something felt different. it was coming from around her leg and then she saw it. fuzzy brown fur with snow dotting it and yellow eyes looking up at her clinging to her leg.

"caught you."

the tiny cub said as he began gnawing on the leather of the avyana's boot.

"Hey now, that's not for biting. That's for keeping my talons warm."

She gently reached down to disengage the cub's claws from the leather before he put any holes in it.

"And you really should have picked another pile of snow to make a quinzhee in. I just about squished you."

The cub let out a yop when cirrus pulled him off.

"Not play hunt! Cub hunt birdy lady!! * bearing pin teeth at the avyanna looking more cute than threatening*

" cub will be great hunter bring back big thing to show alpha! Catch birdy lady!! "

Again he latched on to cirrus ' leg.

Before the cub could latch on a second time, she lifted that leg and let him sail just past her intertarsals. Cirrus turned to face him, squatting down onto her calves. She rolled a ball of snow between her hands as she spoke.

"Ah, but you see... you've already broken rule number one. Hunting is alll about advantages. Ankles are good, but if you're hunting something larger and stronger than yourself, you have to do something a little more..."

She gently tossed the ball of snow at his flank.

"Decisive."

The cub fell into the snow with only his back legs sticking out.
after wiggling around trying right himself. A snow covered head popped out with a hat sized pile of snow on it.

After shaking the snow from his head he yipped again and faced cirrus catching her small snowball with his claws.

" cisife? What cisife? "

Cirrus tweaked her browfeathers as the snowball dissolved into its constituent flakes in the cub's paws.

"Decisive... well... I like to use it in the context of working towards your goal. With you trying to take me back to your alpha you have two main problems. One, I am not going within a league of Rothek until he bathes in the spring. Two, unless you're hiding a cart in that mess of fur, I'm a bit big for you to even drag. So you have a couple of options. What would you do in this situation to accomplish your goal?"

The cub thought for a moment and then his ears perked up as if he had an idea before he scampered away on all fours kicking up snow.

After about fifteen minutes, the cub came back with a crudely fashioned bowl made from leaves , sticks and frozen mud. The bowl was half full of maggots and different colored beetles. The cub set it in front of cirrus then ran behind a tree, peeking back at the avyvana every so often.
