Me and Scottie found this website and thought we would share. Relatively in-expensive LARP weapons. Not sure of quality!

If anyone gets one let me know, I'd like to see the quality...

And let's be honest...how many people want the Zelda sword and shield?

The one review I saw:

"My review is based just off of wanting to use this sword for battle gaming; The material is an unforgiving plastic that combined with the weight makes using this equal to using a wooden sword. Completely unforgiving and brutal. If I wanted it as a stage prop I would give it a 4/5, it does look awesome, but its not good for hitting people with."

Not foam, but plastic. Sounds like a bad idea.

Yeah, no good for larp then...if it is harder than the nerd weapons then it is a real no-no

I was just about to post that these looking like the hard "foam" Halloween store prop weapons. Based on price I would have been bowled over if they were soft foam weapons with that level of detail.

Shanna has one, and while it's more dense than your standard latex weapon, it is far and away softer than any Calimacil weapon I've seen. It's about the same as the Nerf sword/axes, but with a larger foam thickness.

I think Nick brough some of these to a WH event to be checked out. There were much stiffer and heavier than NERF weapons. I am not a fan of NERF with the exception of the short sword and their throwing weapons. Also not a fan of Calimacil due to the stiffness.

An example...

RRP:$60.00
Your Price:$39.99
(You save $20.01)
SKU: DSA102
Brand:Darksword Armory

Product Description

These LARP Swords are made of mold injection foam. LARP swords are widely used in movie production and theatrical productions due to safety issues. These swords look real and are very durable. The swords are manufactured with a fiber glass core, giving the blades extra firmness and better handling characteristics. LARP, or buffer swords, can be used for private sword handling practices, theatrical props, plays and movie productions.

Fantasy Skull Larp Sword Features:
Made of mold injected foam
Fiber glass core
Special non chip paint
Reinforced rounded tip
Looks and feels like a real sword
Great for kids, larp and prop use
Measurements:
Blade: 33"
Overall: 43"
Weight: 1 Lb
So, basically, from what I gather, it's foam injected with a fiberglass core... but with a non-chip painting to look/feel like a real sword. It claims it's useful for boffer LARP but I wonder if they actually know what that means. I would agree that it's likely a VERY firm sword and that both the density of the foam and the paint that they use likely make it a very firm strike when it by it.
For $30, that's not a bad price... IF the NPC staff is willing to be hit by it.

I highly doubt that "reinforced rounded tip" means it's a thrusting tip. :-/

The other weird thing? Darksword Armory is selling this sword for $120 themselves (Well, their deal is 2 for $120, so it's $60 each) ... but $90 off the brand's own web site for the regular price? Something seems fishy.
http://www.darksword-armory.com/product ... rp-swords/

Still, only a few are of that manufacturer. Others list "Dense Foam" and "Rigid Core", like the Hand and a Half: http://www.swordsofmight.com/hand-and-a ... sword.aspx

Gen Con might have some of these around to check out. I can also post on the Michigan LARP facebook and see if folks have dealt with these and their input before anyone invests too much and they are outright banned from FH/WH.

Even if the blade turns out to be the wrong foam, fo rthat price I could very much see buting one just to strip thier foam off the core and adding the correct stuff since the cross guard and grip look awesome and have great detail.
Again, would depend on close, hands on inspection to see if it was usable.

I'm not sure which one Shanna has, but it does have an amazing thrusting tip. Taki was actually the one to point it out to me, as I neglected to check.

-Update-

I purchased the LARP Rapier from this site, and it took nearly a month, a phone call, and an email to get it shipped out.

Once it got here, I was disappointed to find out that I spent my money on garbage. At its thickest point (the base of the blade where it attaches to the hilt, roughly 2" long) it is as least as dense as a Calamicil weapon. The further up the blade you go, the worse it gets. Where there should be a thrusting tip, the core (fiberglass smaller than a pencil in diameter) rests just under a coat of paint.

Between the sites lack of customer service and this piss-poor weapon, I'd suggest against doing any business with them.

-edit-
I may do some creative experimenting with it, because I enjoy the hilt. Still, don't buy this trash.

Many of the weapons on the site are manufactured by different companies, so they may not all be of the same quality/issues... but at those prices it may be a gamble either way. They might make nice props though, just not to be used as combat weapons?

I have two latex swords from http://www.strongblade.com/nav/LARP.html - specifically the 'dark infantry' sword and the 'rogue sword.' I have had them for 4 years now and they have held up wonderfully.

If you want a latex sword (that doesn't suck like Calamacil, which only look good) be prepared to spend a minimum of around $50.

As for a plug for Strongblade, they shipped to me and I had it within 5 days. Highly recommended! (No, they aren't paying me )

One of our guys got a set of short swords. No problems with delivery etc. but they are on par with the NERF swords. Hard and plasticky rather than foam.
As said for the price it might be worth it to pick up a few and strip them. Dont know.
Also I dont know anyone who has seen how the Axes/Hammers are constructed. Might still be something there.
Lastly the newest generation of Calamacil is fantastic. I have several, and even used the Skrow Hammer at the last FH event with zero complaints.
