Distance and Milage: 2012 FH events vs. 2013 FH Events.

Post by GM-Taki »

Just because it was a topic of conversation this weekend, I thought I'd address the perception that this year's FH events are somehow more distant for those of us coming from the West side. I decided to look up the actual distances, and it turns out my initial thoughts were correct.

People on the West side actually have to travel 127 FEWER miles to attend all of the FH events this year. Here's the breakdown, as measured from Muskegon:

Code: Select all

Miles from Muskegon, MI. to each of the Final Haven events, 2012-2013.

2012 Events
95 miles to Rota Kiwan (x2x3) = 570
97 miles to Camp Wacousta x2 = 194
226 miles to Camp Silver Trails x2 = 452
2012 Miles = 1216

2013 Events
95 miles to Rota Kiwan x2 = 190
74.5 miles to Long Lake Outdoor (x2x2) = 299
125 Miles to Camp Kiwanis x2 = 250
175 miles to Camp Holaka x2 = 350
2013 Miles = 1089
I found it surprising that people were howling about how much further away Camp Kiwanis was (30 miles further than Rota Kiwan) when no one complained about going to Rota Kiwan vs. Ionia (Rota Kiwan is 24 miles further away than Bertha Brock).

There's also the important note that Camp Holaka in Lapeer is over 50 miles CLOSER than Camp Silver Trails, shaving an hour off of the drive.

I know some concerns were voiced about the new camps potentially being further away, but we're really coming out better than we did before. Hopefully we'll find a new home sometime soon, but in the meantime I wanted to correct the notion that we on the West side were losing out.
