Not wearing armor phys rep

I was recently told that not wearing my armor counted as not being costumed correctly and I would get my armor points but lose a life point for costume. I DID NOT follow that ruling as I couldn't find it.

Can this be a. clarified and b. if true added to the rule book...

ALSO, I think this ruling is total nonsense. You either put on the physrep or lose the points in my opinion with the only exception being that GMs rule we're all doing "virtual" armor due to heat or some other reason and telling people they're not allowed to wear armor for safety reasons. (I've actually been required to take off my armor by GMs in other games due safety issues with heat.)

What??

You either have an armor physrep or you do not, much like you have a weapon physrep or you do not. As far as I know, costuming is costuming and armor is armor. If you're not wearing your armor physrep, you're not wearing armor (unless summer/heat armor rules are in play).

Again, much like if you don't have your weapon physrep.. you can't swing your weapon...

Its supposed to mean your armor pieces count as a weighted item (like carrying resources), while having a phys rep eliminate that weight....just like all tagged items with weight.

I would also say you lose any "real armor" benefits

Good. I was concerned when I heard that was the rule. Glad to know it's not. No armor phys rep on = no armor points.

Of course if it's still an existing rule, remember you still get the 1LP bonus for accurate armor representation, as any onlooker can see you are not wearing any armor, thus removing any confusion. It came up years ago when Dani (my wife) asked about it in relation to her big dresses.

Current rules SHOULD be...

Not wearing phys rep is like not phys repping a potion or magic item, means the tag causes weight.

Wearing a phys rep that may not look overly correct for a fantasy game and the type of armor its representing, but still makes it obvious you are wearing armor and on what locations, causes weight to go away.

Wearing a phys rep that looks correct for a fantasy game and the type of armor its representing causes weight to go away, and the PC to gain a LP.

If the above phys rep is ALSO made of the right materials for its type, its "real armor" and when hit with a shatter effect is NOT destroyed, but the in game value instantly drops to zero as if it had been beat down one point at a time by being hit.

This is what the current rules indicate.
Physical Representations:
In order to gain armor points, a physical representation of armor must be worn by the player.
Although it had been stated by several GMs have stated that a new player does not NEED to have a phys rep until their 4th event.

Ah, ok. As I am always wearing some sort of armor (varies depending on char obviously), I remember the +1 LP used to be for accurate representation of what armor you are wearing. So, for instance when Dani wore her big dresses and no armor *at all*, she got +1 LP because it was obvious to an onlooker that she was an unarmored character.

I just can't remember if that has changedin the intervening years, as frankly I am always wearing at least a partial suit of armor when awake, even if typically it's just my armored legs as Marcus or my leather chaps as Garritt, while just otherwise being in shirtsleeves for relaxation. So I take the +1 LP for wearing even just a couple of points of armor as a "just in case" attack buffer.

I hereby consider myself dumb about the Shatter rules, as that's frankly something I have always feared, as a single random shatter packet can cost a TON to replace. But in the case of dropping all AP to zero, that's fine with me as I am a smith, lol.

I didn't follow any of that, BUT a PC gets +1LP if WHATEVER armor phys rep they are wearing...looks "correct", its not based on whether your PC is wearing a full set or not.

If that phys rep is ALSO "REAL" due to the material its constructed from , you get the "not shattered, just dropped to zero AP" feature.

I am unsure if that's is whet you mean, but if not I hope that clarifies.

Yes, exactly what I meant. Even if I am wearing just medium legs and that's it for armor, I got +1 LP if they appear to be medium-weight leg armor to any onlooker.

It's that also, at least awhile ago, wearing just plain clothes accurately showed you had no armor on your person, so was also worthy of a benefit.

Armor has always, always been a pain in the ass over the years as to which or what benefit a player gained, I frankly have always been of the mindset that just the coolness of wearing actual, real armor was enough (at least for me).

shouldn't be.

So the GM said no phys rep means no armor. There was a counter posted by Eye and no change to the answer from staff. My take away = if you're not wearing your physrep, you DON'T get any armor points since that was the last post from a GM.

Correct. If you are not wearing your armor phys rep, you are not wearing armor.

... unless summer heat rules are in play.

If you are carrying around armor tags and you don't have a phys rep for it, it counts as weight.

As in, if you have an armor tag for medium legs and no phys rep, you need to count the weight written on that tag. If you are carrying tags for 2 full suits of armor and are wearing one full suit, but you don't have a phys rep for that 2nd set, you need to factor in that weight.

As I recall, Phil said we were having an issue with players having several suits of armor on them going into battle. When armor points from one piece of armor was depleted, they were switching out what they were wearing for another tag to get back their armor points. The idea behind adding weight/phys reps was to prevent people from going onto the field with tags for 3 sets of armor and 7 swords, but only have phys reps for 1 set of armor and 1 sword. Having the armor phys rep reduces the in-game weight to 0. If you have 7 swords on you, we want to see phys reps for 7 swords or suffer the penalty of carrying weight.

As I understand it, having a phys rep for an item reduces that item's weight to 0. One phys rep per tagged item.

Magic items MUST have a phys rep (exceptions are, if you got the magic item this event or if it's a one shot magic item).
