Edited Rule Book

A glimpse into the process of LARP design, into the minds of the creators, and a chance to interact on a design level with the GMs--basically what we're thinking and why

While you're considering formatting edits, is it possible to get a uniform format for activation call-outs? For instance, right now the call-outs for activating different skills looks like "one life point," "1 life point," "one Life Point," etc. (Look at the skills in Basic Empath.)

I would personally suggest something like "1 Life Point," "1 Essence Point," etc. for ease of reference.

When you buy the swap out skill from a discipline what parts of that skill are still viable for example brewer, if i were to take recipe specialist and then at a later point in time buy brew potions would i still get all of the potions and the 3 extra slots or do some of the abilities just get removed at that point?

I'm not sure if it was intentional, but Level 2 Eater of the Dead swap out ability would allow someone to gain a ridiculous amount of temporary essence above their max for an event.

It says the eater of the dead can regain their maximum essence +1 with a 10 second count, but there is no limit written to how many you can go above your max. Please clarify that because as of now it could be broken.

How would you word that so it is more clear? At the end of the skill, you should be one essence point higher than your maximum essence point pool, so if you have five essence in your pool, with this skill, you would go up to 6. If you were at 6 and did the skill, then it would have no effect. Is there a concise way to write that or does it need that type of an example?

Essence boons -

Most essence boons can be found as "universal" level 1 or level 2 discipline skills. I'm happy that the GMs listened and decided to put knockou.. err sleep back in the line-up, but here's the thing... Level 1 for the monk discipline is charge 5 seconds for 1 sleep, while with the boon, you need to charge 10 seconds for the same 1 sleep. Why would this boon be less powerful than a level 1 discipline skill when there are level 2 discipline skills which are also boons such as Resist sleep and Resist poison are boons that can be found as level 2 disciplines AND you can stack them to gain an immunity?

Level 2 brawler swap-out is Sandman which is 10 seconds (same as boon), but instead of 1 sleep you get from the boon, brawler gets a 4 sleep to that 10 seconds.

As written it sounds like this...

I have 5 essence, I spend 10 seconds and get +1. Now I have 6. I spend 10 seconds on a new victim and get another +1, so now I have 7 essence.

I agree it's not clear that you may only get a maximum of +1 through use of this skill, instead of a maximum of +1 per victim.

Mr. Vivac is not the only one that did not read it in the manner you intended. >.>

Maybe you could write something like,

'The eater of the dead may regain 1 essence point by consuming the essence of a dead body with a 10 second count to a maximum of +1 above their max. You may not gain more than +1 above your maximum Essence Points using this skill. '

Not sure If that fully fixes it but you see where I'm heading with it. You may need to give a small example with the skill similar to how you did with quicken casting.
Otherwise remove the +1 above your max part and just let you regain an essence point in 10 seconds which is a good ability on its own.

Especially considering the only ways(that I can remember of the top of my head) to regain essence are by empaths, and potions, th ability to regain an essence in 10 seconds is pretty awesome.

Maybe this?
Level 2 Swap Out: Consume Essence – Charged Skill
The Eater of the Dead can regain Essence, up to +1 more than their normal maximum, when they charge for 10 seconds to consume a deceased person’s Essence. This is a temporary +1 and only lasts at maximum for the event it is gained.
The use of the term "up to +1 more than their normal maximum" should solve the issue, since using it a second time would still only put you one over your NORMAL maximum.

this:
Natural Healing
Aside from being cared for by a Healer, damage inflicted upon a person will heal naturally over a long period of time. It will take 4 hours of rest to regain half of your character’s Maximum Life and Essence Points. It takes 8 hours to heal all of your character’s Maximum Life and Essence Points. This time can be cut in half by a person with the First Aid skill.

Good suggestions. It's on my to-do list.

In case it hasn't been clear, rule book editing has been put on hold so we can prepare for the event but it will all get in there after the event, as well as more probably from additional feedback after seeing things in action. We appreciate all the suggestions.

And I agree, the Sleep boon in under powered. We put that in there based upon player feedback but probably didn't stop to think about how it stacks up with skills already in place. For now, let's call it 1 Sleep in 5 seconds that stacks with monk first level (so 2 Sleep in 5 seconds if you have both).

Thanks for the patience. We'll clean this all up after the event. Now, back to puzzle making...

Also, for after the event, many of the skills in basic Healer that I am sure are swap-out skills (like Combat Reflexes, Martial Training and Invigorate) are not listed as such, just as normal skills, unless that was the intention.

Level 2 Swap Out: Consume Essence – Charged Skill
The Eater of the Dead can regain their maximum Essence +1 when they charge for 10 seconds to consume a deceased person’s Essence. This is a temporary +1 and only lasts at maximum for the event it is gained.

Change to:
Level 2 Swap Out: Consume Essence – Charged Skill
The Eater of the Dead can regain their maximum base Essence +1 when they charge for 10 seconds to consume a deceased person’s Essence. This is a temporary +1 and only lasts at maximum for the event it is gained. The maximum Essence that the Eater of the Dead can have from this skill is Base + 1 Essence.

Just a quick update. There will be some tweaks/changes based upon feedback and bservations from our first event. I have been swamped at work and haven't had time but I expect to have significantly m ore time next week. My hope is to have the book in a better shape by the end of next week and will release rule tweaks by the end of this week.

Thanks as always for your patience.

Rulebook has been updated with all of the following changes:
