An Editorial On Capture: One Month Later.

A trip to Brenondale gone awry. A sadistic man turned even crazier –though perhaps more sympathetic- by his own creations. Split personalities. Mutilation. Daring rescue. All of these are vivid parts of the story. The full account of the abduction of several writers of the Haven Chronicles by the ludicrously named “Bunny Man,” and our eventual rescue, has been documented elsewhere, and I will not repeat all the details here. Still, one thought haunts me. If we had published this madman’s rantings, for one of his personalities warned us of the other, would things have been different? Never mind that he sent us nothing more than crude drawings, we understood his desire to be published, and we ignored it as most likely the request of an unsettled child.

It has come to me, as one of our Chief Editors, that I owe our readership two things. One, a deep felt thank you to the heroes of Brennondale who saved us. I have no doubts that those of us captured would not now be living if it wasn’t for your intervention. And two, most importantly, a promise to publish what is sent us. So, do, send us. Be it dangerous sightings along the wild frontier, tidbits of political gossip, or personal stories of adventure, we want to hear your tales. Please, write us. And, I vow this time to uphold my end of the bargain, as a paper dedicated to the people, to make those words heard.

Frontier justice metted out in Brennondale

A group of henchmen to a crime lord were tried in Brennondale this past moon. Their crimes involved the savage beating of a member of the town amongst other incidents. Present for the makeshift trial was Lord Kaylan Chargeender, Sir Marcus Gideon, the Valkyn'Vi Abaddon and others from Haven. The trial was swift with words exchanged from both sides, and the story unfolded and was tested by those from Haven. When justice was served it was progressive to say the least. Rather than have the men imprisoned or executed for their heinous crime they were sentenced to work. They would pay for their crimes by serving Brennondale and Haven's brave men and women. The men accepted this sentence and appeared to show desire to turn away from their past lives. We asked one of them what they thought of the sentencing.

"I am just so thankful for the opportunity to make things better. To pay for my crimes and to assist those who have given me this chance. I am sorry for what I did, and will make up for my mistakes in earnest."

Only time will tell if the punishment prevents further crimes from being committed in Brennondale

Seraphim Fleet Captain Spotlight
Jinx, Captain of the "Peaceful Intent"

Time and permission was granted to sit down with each of the Captains of the Seraphim Fleet, answering many questions but leaving others in the winds. I was given an audience with the master of each vessel and present such so that the Kingdom of Haven and its Allies know they have nothing to fear. If their actions since their reapperance were too silent, perhaps their words will be louder to listening ears.

The fifth spoken with is a woman named Jinx, also a foreigner in new waters. She is the Captain of the "Peaceful Intent," a brig and the smallest captained vessel in the Seraphim Fleet. When friend, foe or neutral party enters waters occupied by the Fleet it is always the "Peaceful Intent" that approaches first. I inquired as to the nature of this brash action and she replied:
"I don't mind going first. Then I can make sure nobody else gets attacked first. I don't know they're an enemy until I approach them."

I wondered aloud what mindset was required to undertake such a dangerous action. I was informed:
"If you don't approach them with reckless abandon whats the point?"

I noticed Captain Jinx had begun to hum and scribble on my parchment. When I noticed it she said:
"I'm easily distracted, except on my ship."

The winter months saw the Seraphim Fleet scatter somewhat to accomplish individual goals. They have all since come together once more and sail again together.

Horses Stolen at Blackwood Ranch. Gondoza in Brennondale?

The legendary crime lord Gondoza has been a well known thorn in the side of Woodhold authorities, eluding capture there for many years now. But, is his empire expanding? Twelve unsolved crimes last year in Haven were attributed to him, though some law enforcement officials still say the evidence is circumstantial at best. One week ago, another “Gondoza” sighting surfaced. Four horses were stolen from the Blackwood Ranch near Brennondale, and its owner, Mikelus Rose, claimed to have gotten a note from Gondoza himself, requesting future payments, lest the crime should be repeated in the future. The note seems to have dissolved however, or so Mikelus claims, having been written on “magic paper.” Authorities are still looking into the matter.

A Call for Help

Weeks after the courier killings around Brennondale, the Haven Chronicle's own Foreign Correspondent Idyyrilah Enthrada is still missing. On a trip to visit Brennondale on business, she went missing before the disappearances of other staffers by the "Bunny Man".
"She was packing for the long trip last I saw her," close friend Alamdil Alannaeg stated. "Nothing seemed out of the ordinary."
Standard tracking efforts have been taken, but to date no new information has been found. On behalf of all those involved with the Haven Chronicles, we hope for her swift and safe return. To all those in our readership, we ask you keep your eyes and ears open, and ask in your help for her return.

Death Toll rises with Unknown Reasons

The stories talk of ashes of the dead being scattered to the winds to float, mingle, and eventually become the mountains of Phanterra. Today, it seems the mountains grow unchecked. There is no war or sickness. There is neither battle being waged nor assassins to be caught. No elderly mistreated or child untended. No, it seems that the healers have lost their touch.

In a strange phenomenon, the hospitals and care centers within Dawnvale have seen a much higher death rate than in past years. Where standard resuscitation would have normally worked before, it has been proven less reliable as of late.
Many doctors and nurses have become dishearten to be able to save so few. "To watch someone you know you should have saved die in your arms has destroyed the moral of the [doctors]. I fear if we do not see a 'win' soon, some healers may quit." states Marger Mylne of Astiaralvan's Hospital for the Grievously Wounded. "We are not the unfeeling constructs some make us to be, each death hurts us as much as an open wound, and some may not recover."

Worse, this phenomena does not seem to be centered in Dawnvale, instead this seems to be wide-spread among all Phanterran homes. It has been documented in Syl'Van'Dar, Cor'Win'Dar, Final Haven, Uggtown, Killishandra, Calidonia, and even as far as Clawick (a town far north found on the Fancy Doctor's journeys).
With the users of magic beginning to look into this, we hope it is coincidental. If not, we can only hope there is a hero that can save us. Stay safe and watch over your selves, it seems even the smallest brush with death may be your last.

Wizard Battle Royal

The Inpiracy has put the word out that they will be sponsoring some “Tests of Magic” in several different cities. “It’s part of our ongoing campaign to discover what spells are safe and what ones are dangerous,” says Simon 5021, senior Inpiracy member. ‘It’s our duty, now that the gift of magic is so much more prevalent. We don’t want some slighted child with the magic touch casting an earthquake spell, leveling a city because he didn’t get the snack he wanted.”
They will be holding impomptu tournaments to observe spells in practical use.

Calidonia founds first expansion in the Wildlands: Heriholm

With the recent shocking news of the Wildlands, Calidonia has wasted no time. It is of no surprise that Calidonia is the first nation to form a new town within the Wildlands. The expansionist movement had reached a fevered pitch within Calidonia, and this has given the movement a way to focus the newly flamed passions of the youth. Almost exclusively those under the age of thirty, Heriholm has become a wondrous new town choked full of cultural and social gems from Calidonia.

As is Calidonian tradition, the town has been gendered. Unsurprisingly it has been gendered a youthful expansionist male to represent the current demographic.
In the spirit of friendship and camaraderie, Heriholm has been founded a crow's hour to the eastern border of Brennondale. It is expected that the founder of Heriholm, Gimrin Stoneback, will make formal introductions once any necessary arrangements have been made.

Rumors
An adventuring group calling themselves 'Claws of Grey Bear' has been sighted within the wildlands. Rumor swirls they have been lucrative by hiring smaller parties to take on jobs clearing out dangerous areas, then jumping in to 'save' the party last minute once most of the work has been done, claiming all rewards in the process. Moral of the story? Be cautious when adventuring. It is a dangerous profession.

There are rumors that the town of Gil'Dak'Nier, recently founded by new age Valkyn'Vi, has disappeared. How or why or even the truth of this are all still unknown.

There are rumors of recent overgrown vermin attacking couriers in the wildlands. With the extra protection by Sir Marcus Gideon, not one courier or escort has been harmed.

It has been reported by an unknown party that the wandering king is actually a construct, formed from the magical energies of the Dreaming.

Petty crimes around the borders of the Wildland have increased.

Aurora skimmed through the Chronicles until the "Death Toll" article caught her eye. "Healers have 'lost their touch' ?" she muttered. "I'm not losing any..." Her expression changed from anger to concern as she read through the rest of the article.

"Well, something will have to be done about this," she said to herself, the vines growing through her hair twitching in response to her worries as she considered what she could do about the problem.
