The Chronicles of Final Haven by Zeira Lightscroll

Post by Zeira »

Entry Date: 29th Day Trappers Month, 1067 P.E.W

As the people of Final Haven began this year a great many strange occurrences. The first of these starting with the Castle Gravesbane being completely disintegrated by some sort of unknown entropy. A little time after that a man named Vantavius Kane approached the residents of Haven with a very similar case. His wife was in possession of a necklace that the mother of Corbyn Gravesbane had made on the day he was born.

Vantavius testified that he had even encountered Corbyn who demanded the necklace back. Moments later though Corbyn fled, seemingly terrified of something. He was the one who suggested speaking to a Professor Lawton of Brandybrook Academy. Professor Lawton had been studying Corbyn over the past year and had amassed a large amount of knowledge about the man. It was decided that the Heroes of Haven should investigate the matter further by speaking to Professor Lawton directly.

Upon their arrival things seemed quite normal. The Brandybrook Academy appeared to be a small yet competent group of knowledge seekers, each specializing in their own areas of study ranging from arithmetic to ancient languages and even culinary courses. After some more time there they noticed that some of the other classes were geared towards more occult things such as Future Sciences and Book Wrangling.

Professor Lawton was there and had much knowledge to share with the Havenites, albeit in his own special way. He educated them on the CGROP scale, a guide that he used to rank Corbyn Gravesbanes relics of power. At the top of the list was the Vial of Holding, an item that allowed it possessor to possess things not in their possession. Professor Lawton believed that he knew the location of the item and guided the heroes to it's estimated location and also provided a guide as to how to get it once they arrived there.

Also at the Brandybrook Academy was a small box that was in reality a portal to another plane of existence. The box was brought to the academy by an older gentleman who said that he had escaped from the world that had lied beyond but was unable to reactivate it afterwords. He stated that he was trying to escape with a friend of his who was trying to elope with the kings daughter of that realm.

Using the notes the man had provided the Havenites managed to reopen the portal, rescue the older gentleman's friend and his beloved, who had not aged a moment. In the end a group of the men decided to defect to the Havenites in return for rescuing their families from their oppressive leader. Not long after the portal closed. Attempts to reactivate it proved to be fruitless.

While all of these things were happening a strange thing happened to a select few of the Havenites. Things they had known from the past had faded from their memory. In their place were strange abilities they knew nothing of. Upon further study it was discovered that an entity who I will simply refer to as Chaos was present at the Academy. When Chaos is present on our realm things tend to happen for seemingly no reason such as instantaneous transport of people and strange transmutations of items.

Though it is not entirely known as to why there seemed to be a reason the Chaos entity was in this realm. However strange notes started appearing in different places seemingly taunting the afflicted parties as though this was all a game of some sort. One Havenite had a vision of a small forested area that was ravaged by a great storm. In the center stood a chalice that contained two small coins in it and was missing a small pearl.

After a thorough search of the surrounding area no such place was found. However it was discovered that the "Taunts" were actually clues as to how to get to the mysterious place, one in which was given in the form of a potion that put the imbiber to sleep. After discovering the missing the small pearl that belonged in the chalice the possessor went to sleep with it in their possession. Upon doing so the possessor placed the pearl into the chalice causing water to begin to overflow from it once again. At this time the influence that Chaos had upon the Havenites seemed to fade.

A shadow looms over the folk of Final Haven and worse yet they have yet to discern as to what casts it. The list of Havens enemies is long and deadly. The question whether this an enemy of the past or something much worse. Only time will tell.

Entry Date: 22nd Day Sailors Month, 1067 P.E.W

As spring flowers bloom so do the problems that often plague Final Haven. The residents work hard to quell the problems that often come with trying to establish a new kingdom. Resources are becoming more scarce and enemies surround them plotting how they will take what they can.

Bandit raids have become increasingly more common. There have been few efforts to eliminate the problems and those that have attempted to have found their efforts to be less than fruitful. Though they seem like a minor annoyance they are a much bigger threat than they appear. Without a concentrated effort the bandits will soon have an army and they will turn their efforts from the occasional theft to the domination of Final Haven. Worse still will be if they decided to unite themselves under one banner.

Ga’Vin tribes are also taking up residence near Haven and have come into to town to harass some of the locals. Usually it is just insults but they have now began burning down local villages. On top of this they have offered their services as mercenaries to those with the coin. This is a very strange predicament as the Havenites are in need of allies but the Ga'Vin as a whole have a history of betrayal.

The artifacts of Corbyn Gravesbane are still creating issues as well. While none are certain as to their actual properties or what threat they pose it is agreed that they must be destroyed for the greater good. The Bracers of Invisibility were recovered this moon although they were not the only ones searching for them. The Snake Folk were also looking to recover them to complete their mystical armor. Once recovered by the Havenites the Snake Folk went through great lengths to attempt claim the bracers for themselves even resorting to kidnapping Lady Fionna’s brother in an attempt to trade but their efforts proved to be unsuccessful. In the end the Bracers of Invisibility were destroyed by the joined efforts of the Havenites.

The seals that contained the Lurker, a creature bent on destroying the Valkin’Vi, have been destroyed but the Havenites have been working hard on restoring them. It has been difficult however as dark forces that were once contained by the seals are now trying to stop them from doing so. They have been even going so far as possessing the bodies of Havenites to achieve their goals jumping from one person to the next. The threat is growing so dire that members of the Valkin’Vi circle have needed to intervene directly due to the nature of the situation. With their combined efforts one of the seals has been restored but the Lurker still has his foothold in Phantara.

A guild of mages known as the Crimson Stars have also been discovered working in the area. They have been hunting for artifacts of power locally. They seem to be a lively bunch of wizards who don’t take themselves too seriously but are quite skilled at their work. Be advised to not mistake their laid back demeanor for incompetence. They are truly masters of the mystical arts.

Spring planting seems to be going according to schedule but in the lands of Final Haven anything can occur so its residents must remain vigilant if they wish to thrive.

A fine history, Zeira, but I understand it was the Gavin who burned part of the Mining Village - apparently another test of our defenses, or an outright effort to weaken us.
