1st Annual LARP Awards - Larpies

Post by Lambic »

I found this listed at Shade's Larp List here.
NERO International is proud to announce a partnership with a television production company based in Hollywood, California to hold the first annual LARP Awards (LARPIES), to be held in Los Angeles, in April 2006.

The partnership is now accepting submissions from anyone and everyone who participates in Live Action Role Playing (LARP) games, including Canada and European Countries. (Please see below for the Awards Schedule for the 2005 LARPIES.)

To be considered, please send a VHS videotape, DVD, CD-Rom, and/or Still Photo of you and/or your group in action to the following address:

The LARPIES
c/o The Live Adventures Company - NERO
P.O. Box 543
Rye NY 10580

(If sending a video or DVD, please try and keep it “short but sweet” – five minutes is usually more than enough time to get your point across.)

Include with your submission:
1) The Category (See the LARP Award Categories)
2) A paragraph (more is ok) explanation of the submission
3) Your name, home address, e-mail address, telephone and date of birth
4) The Name of the LARP you participate in and its web site URL

The LARPIE Awards Schedule

Contestant Submission Period (2005): September 01, 2005 to January 15, 2006.

Finalists Posted on www.LARPIES.com Website: February 15, 2006

Public Voting Deadline: March 15, 2006

LARPIE Awards Ceremony: April 2006 in Los Angeles, California. Exact Date and Location TBA.

Sincerely,

Joseph Valenti
President
I was not sure if we might want to enter. I think we might need some better pictures though.[/url]

I think this year would be the 2nd or 3rd annual though. Doug could've won best costume easy last year.

Erik, I think you maybe thinking of the "Shadies" awards. The LARPies is a full blown TV production atleast it is supposed to be.

I am afraid that, seeing it is being covered by a TV producer, the LARPies will come off more like a Lampoon of the LARP hobby and not a celebration of it. I am a bit nervous about it.

That very well could be but being a part of it can't really hurt. People that aren't going to try LARP anyway aren't going to be convinced to by a story celebrating it but the people who may try it or are looking for a LARP to replace their old one just might give FH a shot if they see it on a LARP award show, especially if something is won.

If we made the movie short and it was cool then there would be no joking

Well you can't really control what some guy in a studio decides to do with footage that you submit to a contest. Or if someone decided to come tape part of an event as long as they got the parks permission to do it. All I;m really getting at is that exposure is exposure. The short can be as serious as can be, whether other non LARPers look at it that way is another story altogether.
