Anyone have issues with how Harden skin is worded below?

Post by GM_Chris »

Hardened Skin
The Harden skin ability grants 2 points of base armor. This is in addition to any normal armor that might be worn. Harden skin, unlike armor, must be healed as if they are life points. Armour points gained through this ability are not counted when calculating the character's armour catagory.

Suggestion

Post by Nelkie »

Can harden skin be healed by normal means/ regeneration?

Good catch Eric!

I would just say grant Armor, not base armor. base armor makes me think there is 2 different types of armor.

You might also want to state harden skin does noo protect you against stun strike or nerve pinch.

If you leave it as life that can't be spent then the clarification of protection isn't neccesary and it alleviates any possible cheatery interpretation.

I do not like the idea of calling them life points that can not used for skills becasue you get rid of the biggest bonus of harden skin, protect from posion and disease calls becasue it acts like armor. If you want just make them the just like the mystcal armor points utlize armor grants that do do not require one to wear any armor that repop after 5 minutes of rest. That means no new calls or understanding of the rules.

Harden skin:
you are granted 2 armor points that repop after 5 minutes of rest. You do not need to wear armor to use the points. The points add into the bonus you get from utlize armor.
Or something like that. This removes the complication of trying to rember what you have on.

We could make it simple by making costuming that is counted as 2 armor that repops after 5 minutes or 1 life.

So you would have the following items
Negative life. - Bleeding to death
zero life. - Unconious
postive life. - use to activate skills
armor - from armor fiserep.
armor that repop after 5 minutes of rest.
My Thoughts

I didn't realize that harden skin could protect you from poison and disease, not sure why it does that but won't protect from stun and nerve pinch but that's another thread. If they do protect from those things then definitely keep them as harden skin, a completely different name than life or armor since it's a combo of both and add what it does protect you from.

This is all good and thanks Nelkie because I missed that in Dougs description.

All harden skin can only be returned via the 5 minute med there is no "healing" of harden skin.

Sorry for the confusion.

As for what it protects I agree that harden skin should protect against everything armor protects against.

Not sure if I missed a change or somone is in error...but hardened skin is restored by healing/regeneration.

from the 2004 rule book:

Level 2: Harden skin
Harden skin gives the Barbarian 2 points of base armor. This is in addition to any normal armor that might be worn. Since harden skin adds to your base armor you can add any percent increases you have because of race/path/discipline. Harden skin, unlike armor, must be healed as if they are life points.
