I fully understand the item vs herb debacle from both sides, I'm not touching that can of worms. If the mage would rather mimic other effects than deal damage, go for it. I'd like to see better buffs in there, seeing as how they can be disenchanted. Leaf Armor for Everyone!

because parry will be used every single fight, but counter-spell is only useful is someone else casts. Additionally, You don't have to research/find/trade for skills like rage and channel that are going to be used until the cows come home. You buy it, it's yours. Craftsmen have access to a limitles...

I agree that cooldowns are absurdly long, and can be mitigated somewhat with high level advantages, but suggest as an idea that casting cooldowns be replaced with reloads. It still limits the amount of field-wide explodies they do, but gives the mage with 9 spells the advantage over the mage with on...
